Kevin is often asked do you work en plein air (the French term meaning “out in the open air,” or on location) from photos, or imagination?
The answer is all three. Kevin primarily works en plein air during the warmer months in Michigan and during winter travels. However during these plein air adventures opportunities of special lighting often arise that he takes photos of for later reference during studio painting during inclement months. Many of his favorite smaller on location paintings are also translated into large studio works during these months. For still life he prefers to work from life with florals that he picks and arranges himself seasonally.
His imagination is always in play creating a stylistic interpretation of what lies before him. While a sense of place and eye for detail is always there, to see his art is to look at a world made of paint!
Original oils $450-$8200 with larger works available by commission. Please contact Kevin regarding pricing for individual piece(s).
